The 3M™ PELTOR™ ComTac™ VIII headset protects your hearing and can help promote auditory situational awareness and communication in challenging environments. Some versions are equipped with a lead cable for connection to a radio via push-to-talk (PTT) and a noise-canceling speech microphone for communication in noisy environments.

 The next generation tactical headset platform

The 3M™ PELTOR™ ComTac™ VIII is the next generation of our communication and hearing protection headset platform for law enforcement and military use with updated design, optimized system integration. The improved situational awareness allows wearers to be more efficient during tactical operations. The earcups, headband and microphone attachment have been completely redesigned to improve attenuation, comfort and overall usability for the wearer.

Hear ambient noise for auditory situational awareness

The ambient sound listening feature, also known as "talk-through", allows safe sounds to electronically bypass the individual hearing protection while still protecting against harmful sounds. A microphone receives the sounds outside the headset and transmits them to a loudspeaker inside the headset. The level-dependent digital audio circuit detects noise levels above the desired threshold and compresses them to a safe decibel level or amplifies weak sounds to an audible level. The ComTac™ VIII features our latest ambient microphones positioned in a wider and deeper parabolic design.

Mission Audio Profile (MAP)

ComTac™ VIII provides a way to customize the audio settings of the headset for the specific application. With conventional headsets, the frequency response is predefined. The user can only increase or reduce the volume. The MAP function offers advanced modes for ambient listening with different gain settings and frequency adjustments to improve hearing in different situations. The MAPs (Mission Audio Profiles) were developed for combat and combat support operations.

Hearing protection and earplug mode

In critical situations, noise levels can be so high that they can cause immediate and permanent damage to hearing if suitable protection is not worn. ComTac™ VIII contributes to hearing protection and can also be worn in combination with earplugs to provide additional protection if required. In earplug mode, it is possible to maintain a degree of auditory situational awareness as the volume of the headset is increased to compensate for the additional attenuation provided by the earplug.

Mission critical communication

Communication plays a critical role in modern military operations. The ability to communicate is critical to effectively react, coordinate and respond. ComTac™ VIII features sound customization that enhances speech intelligibility in noise. Sound customization enables automatic changes to product settings depending on the user environment.
